Soneva Jani Maldives is the sister property of Soneva Fushi Maldives. This island is located approximately 50 minutes by seaplane from Male, in the northern part of Maldives - Noonu Atoll. Traveling to Soneva Jani, guests will first head over to the seaplane lounge and wait for their flight, there’s fresh juices, snacks and even order to make food options at the lounge so guests can relax while they wait to board the short ride.

Guests can also do a combination stay between the 2 island resorts - Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani, and they are located approximately 1 hour apart by speedboat and 15 minutes via seaplane. The concept at Soneva Jani is very familiar to Soneva Fushi, both island resorts are very environmentally friendly and huge on sustainability. The difference between the two islands is that Soneva Jani are majority Water Villas whereas Soneva Fushi focuses on mostly beach houses. Both of these resorts are no shoes, no news, barefoot island! YAY!

Accommodations + Facilities
Soneva Jani definitely has some of the largest water villas in the Maldives, even the smallest room category is MASSIVE. And they are known for the signature water slides in each individual water villas! It was definitely one of the most iconic feature. They did an amazing job with merging luxury and keeping the rustic and beauty of an island resort. I am absolutely in love with all the details that was put into all the villas, from the exterior look and feel, the entrance, the layouts, to even the door knob and light switches. Guests will definitely have an amazing time discovering all the little details and appreciate the thoughts and concept behind its creation. Besides having a water slide and rooftop terrance in all the villas, the best feature in my opinion is the retractable roof right above the master bedroom! There’s a button inside the drawer on the bedside table that allows guests to open the roof, a retractable roof that allows guests to sleep under the stars or just enjoy sunshine and breeze during the day! (And yes, it’s got an auto close function when rain is detected!)

Since the island resort first opened back in 2016, Soneva Jani have recently expanded their island in 2020. Now there’s Soneva Jani Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, they are all overwater villas except Chapter 2 is newer, and have a different color theme and slight differences in the layouts. Chapter 1 and 2 are separated by the main island, also a rather large natural island, so it takes approximately 15 minutes to travel by buggy from one end to another. Since there are only very few beach villas here at Soneva Jani, most of the main island is kept as it’s natural form and this made it one of the most popular spots for turtles to come lay their eggs, hence why one of their beaches is called Turtle Beach!

There is no communal pool here at Soneva Jani as all of the individual villas have its own private pool. All villas have assigned private butlers that take care of all guests’ needs during their stay, including buggy rides, restaurants reservations, spa appointments, etc...

Speaking of Spa, there are 2 spa facilities here at Soneva Jani, one of each side of the island for guests from both Chapter 1 & 2. Chapter 1 spa is located at Junction, also the hub of the island, probably the largest over water building I’ve ever seen in the Maldives - everything can be found here including restaurants, shops, spa, kids club, lounge spots, bar, etc… And the Chapter 2 spa is located on the island, also called Island Spa, is newly opened just October of 2021. The design of the island spa, the architecture, all the details are just one of a kind - definitely one of the most beautiful and unique spas I’ve ever seen.

Restaurants
Similar to Soneva Fushi, here at Jani there is also an organic vegetable and herb garden where guests can enjoy dinner, a chocolate and ice cream parlor with everything homemade, and many different dining outlets.

  • The gathering, also known as Down to earth, is the main breakfast area, serving international buffet and a la carte breakfast, with endless options for fresh squeeze juices and smoothies. Lunch is a la carte menu, and dinner it turns into chef table (So engaging).

  • Director’s Cut, an overwater cinema dining experience serving Japanese cuisine. Guests can watch movie on the large screen during and after dinner!

  • Crab Shack, a seafood restaurant on the beach, guests can enjoy delicious Sri Lankan mud crab and different fresh seafood options with their toes in the sand. Also in love with the interior design, where each dining tables and chairs are uniquely handmade, even the roof is built with remaining wood pieces that are leftover from building the water villas.

  • So Wild By Diana Von Cranach, dining with a health-conscious, located at the organic vegetable and herb garden, serving south east asian cuisine.

  • So Primitive, fire pit with different cooking technique!
